So I guess I need to explain the title of the previous blog...Ad Blue, Torture Chamber and Pizza.
We drove from Bratislava cross country to Bardejov yesterday with stops along the way in Levoca, to see the world's tallest Gothic altar and then on to the famous Spis Castle. But first we had to get all of our luggage into the car.
As we were driving, we decided to take a break and stretch our legs. First problem, the place where we stopped had bathrooms that were out of order...not good. Then one of the cars would not start. We finally determined that it needed AdBlue...some sort of additive for fuel emissions in newer cars. Well of course the station where we stopped did not carry that product despite the fact that there was a sign for it. So we shuttled people to the next town for a stop for lunch while Slavo and I continued driving in search of AdBlue. Two more towns later and we finally found some. Back we went, poured it into the car and we were on our way!
Our next stop was Levoca where we saw the famous altar.
After leaving Levoca we went about another fifteen minutes to the famous Spis Castle. My apologies, but my camera died when we went inside so I have no photos to share except for the one below. Hopefully I can get some from some of the other participants. The highlight of the interior was viewing the Torture Center, complete with a rack, stocks and other apparatus. Of course we all had to try them out!
We arrived in Bardejov around 8:30 pm and took our first jaunt into the Centrum. Pizza was the main course of the evening, a refreshing change from all of the starchy comfort food we were used to...halushky, pirohy, holubki, etc.
Today we headed to the village of Chmelova. I'm hoping to post again tomorrow morning before church so we will be all caught up then.
